The Chale Wote Street Art Festival is an annual street carnival in Ghana that celebrates art, music, dance, fashion, and performance. Since its establishment in 2011, it has brought together thousands of people from diverse backgrounds to showcase creative expression, mainly in the historic streets of Jamestown. Over time, the festival has grown in popularity, and for its 13th edition, it was relocated to Black Star Square (Independence Square) to accommodate larger crowds.
“Chale Wote” comes from the Ga language, meaning “friend, let’s go.” The festival usually runs for several days and features activities such as street painting, graffiti, theatre, spoken word, live performances, skate shows, fashion parades, workshops, film screenings, and music events. It also offers interactive experiences where visitors can take part in creative workshops. Prominent figures like Rocky Dawuni, King Ayisoba, Amandzeba, and others have previously participated, making the festival one of Ghana’s most vibrant cultural celebrations.
